**Lacrosse doesn’t have to end in July!**

The Weyburn Lacrosse Association is thrilled to announce that Registration for Rattlers Field Lacrosse opened on June 1st.

Field Lacrosse is played on the grass. Practices will be held at Jubilee Park and inside at the Spark Centre when the weather doesn't cooperate.

The Field Lacrosse season will run from mid-August to Late September/early October depending on age groups.

Fees will be: U7/U9 - $75, U11/U13 - $100, U15/U17/U20 - $150

"Field lacrosse is a great team sport to improve physical conditioning/strength, footwork, stick skills, positional play, etc. It complements box skills and is great prep for any upcoming winter sports." -Alumni Rattlers Coach Charles Hignett

Since most of our families are familiar with box lacrosse, here are some of the differences between field and box lacrosse:

  1 - Positions:

  · Attack typically stays in the offensive end of the field trying to score goals

  · Midfielders play both offense and defense

  · Defense prevents the opposition from scoring goals and transition the ball out of our zone

  · Goalie prevents goals. They do wear more equipment than the rest of the field positions but less than in box lacrosse.  We can provide athletes with equipment if they do not have their own.

2 - Number of Players: Younger age groups (up to U13) consist of 7 players on the field at one time and U15 and older would have 10 players. Those 10 would be 3 Attack, 3 Midfielders, 3 Defense and 1 Goalie.

3 - Equipment is very close to box except no kidney belt or bicep guards are needed. Cleats are recommended for traction. Defensive players are allowed to use a longer stick (D-pole) to defend their zone.

4 - The game is full contact but typically not as physical as box as there is way more space on the field. Cross checking is not allowed and you can only slash to the stick/hands. Body contact is allowed on the ball carrier and on loose balls.

5 - There are no league games like U11-U17 in box. The program is set up to have festivals (tournaments) on weekends in different communities. This schedule will be released closer to the start of the season.

Please reach out to the Rattlers Field Coordinator, Brittany Stepp at rattlers@weyburnlax.ca if you have any questions about the Field Lacrosse program or if you would be interested in learning to coach or officiate field lacrosse. Training and mentorship will be provided.
